Our History

In 1952,

Dimitris and Evaggelia Tsambala founded Taverna Tsambala, a cozy spot offering traditional Greek mezedes accompanied by wine and ouzo. Known locally across the island of Kos as "Boukalia", the nickname stems from the approximately 30,000 "Peroni" beer bottles used to construct the restaurant's quaint courtyard in 1960.

Over the years,

Michalis Tsampallas, the founders' son, and his wife Maria have lovingly continued the family tradition, ensuring that the essence of Greek cuisine and its quality remain intact. Now, their son, Dimitris, has joined the family business as the third generation, bringing a contemporary perspective while respecting the taverna's rich heritage.

Taverna Tsambala

Taverna Tsambala has humbly served the island of Kos for over 70 years, embodying the warmth of traditional Greek hospitality. Now under its third generation, the restaurant looks forward to welcoming guests and sharing its passion for food for many more years to come.
